Description

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is committed to involving patients, carers and others in planning, delivering, monitoring and improving the services we provide.

At our Listening Event in April you told us…

  • There is a need for better communication between the hospital and its patients; hospital letters can be confusing and there are delays in receiving information and results
  • Healthcare professionals and clinical departments should work together more efficiently
  • Patients should be involved in decisions made about their own treatment plan
  • The hospital should use feedback to make service improvements
  • The Listening Event was a good idea - 90% of attendees said that they would attend a similar event

For the next event we would like to tell you about some of the changes that are happening at UCLH and the opportunities to be involved as well as ask for your feedback. The changes include an electronic health records system, investing in patient administration and improved patient flow.

Electronic Health Records System

This new system will have a patient portal, giving patients access to their treatment plan and information about their condition. Patients will also be able to view their health records, book and reschedule appointments, contact their clinical team, upload medical data and recovery information and participate in patient education and research.

Access and Patient Administration programme

A new trust-wide system will be introduced later this year to improve turnaround times of clinical outcome letters for GPs and patients. We are also testing a new and more efficient method of recording un-booked follow up appointments directly onto our appointment system. A charity funded learning and development plan for admin staff is underway; we are currently recruiting for trainers and plan to begin the training later this year.

Co-ordination Centre

An electronic system will help reduce inpatient delays and improve efficiency, using a Real Time Locating System to monitor the patient journey from admission, through theatres and other procedural areas to discharge. The Coordination Centre will provide hospital-wide visibility and manage activity to reduce patient waiting times and improve patient flow across our sites.
